  • I'm on the hunt

Job hunt, that is. I'm hoping to graduate from university with my BS in April (please oh please) and I need a job asap after graduation. As in give me a week to move and I'm there. I want to go to grad school, but I have to face facts and admit that I don't have the grades or the finances to go right now. I need to work for a couple years, pay off some of my school debt, and get some practical experiance, and then, I'll go back. And I will go back. I will have a master's degree before I die.

  • Can I keep the puppy, Mom? She followed me home.

We've adopted a new dog. Actually, she adopted us. She followed my brother home one day (honestly) almost two weeks ago, and hasn't left yet. She's a cute dog, and well behaved. We don't know where she came from; Abraham's gone around to all the neighbors within about a mile to ask if she's theirs, and we put up a "found dog" ad on the radio station's free lost/found/give-away ads. No word yet, so we're keeping her. We're calling her Yogurt. That brings us back up to two dogs, and we're definately a two dog  family (if you didn't know, our Rusty died about two years ago from a stroke/old age).

UPDATE (7/26/07): We're calling her Topaz now. Mom felt funny calling "Yooooo-gurt" every time she took the dogs for a run, so last night we pulled out the mineral and wildflower field guides out and sat around the dinner table trying out new names. I was all for Woolly Ragwort (if you don't think that's funny, you need to watch Sarah, Plain and Tall again), but Mom thought that was even worse. We almost went with Poppy, but we decided it sounds too much like Polly, who is my grandparent's dog.

What, don't you name your pet from the field guides? Duh, how else are you going to come up with a great name that isn't the same as 50 other dogs in the neighborhood?

  • Don't worry...

I went to the doctor for the first physical I've had since my pre-kindergarten exam...and I'm going back in a couple weeks to have some moles removed and biopsied. I'm getting three off but I'm only worried about one of them. However, since skin cancer (and many other kinds of cancer) run in my family, it's better to be safe then sorry. I'll let you know how everything goes, but I'm not having them removed till the 14th and the biopsy results won't be in till around the 24th.

  • On an unrelated note,

    Lady Bird Johnson has died.

This makes me so sad in a myriad of ways, most of which I can't quite put my finger on. I've always loved Lady Bird Johnson, and admired her. Suffice it to say, she was a great lady. Full of grace and dignity and love, dedicated to making the world, and especially this nation, a better place.
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix

I went to see Harry Potter last night with my brother. Half the audience was people from work with their families, so it made me feel like I actually knew people. Even if those people are strange oldish men.

Anyways, my thoughts. Basically, they're what everyone has been saying.

Luna was perfect! Seriously, they couldn't have found a better person to play that role. I love that she skipped everywhere.

And the thestrals looked just as I imagined too.

The bit in the Hall of Prophecies was also just as I imagined it. Bellatrix Lestange, Lucius Malfoy, and the other Death Eaters were terrifying and arrogant, just as they should be, but they were also likeable looking villians.

And Umbridge was great. Deliciously evil.

I agree that the Weasley boys are all highly attractive. Were I the type to have crushes on movie personas, I could very easily have a crush on Fred/George. Mrs Weasley, however, remains my favorite Weasley in the movies. In the books, it's Ginny, though.

I still miss the old Dumbledore, from the first movie. The current one has the all-knowing part down, but his jolly benevolence is missing.

I didn't like how they made Cho the snitch that ratted out Dumbledore's Army, even if she did do it under the influence of Veriteserum.

I like Tonks, the little we saw of her. We didn't see here enough, but I suppose in a film of a book of this length, they had to cut some parts out.

I missed the Quidditch games as well. There had better be lots of Quidditch in the next movie.

The older they get, the wose of an actress Emma Watson becomes. It was acceptable in the first couple movies, but now she has a much larger, more dramatic part to play, and she isn't doing it very well. It's disappointing. She's so pretty, but so bland in her acting.

With a new director. the movie had a very different feel from the others, but it fit. It was darker, but it's a darker story. It was beautifully done, very artistic, but not detracting from the story as some wonderfully artistic movies can be. All in all, it was a success. Well worth it. I can't wait for the book to come out next week.

  • Announcement

Some of you may remember last summer I did the Blogathon, where I generated a new post every half hour for 24 hours for charity (to read, go to my posts on July 29, 2006). I'm doing it again. On Saturday, July 28, I will be blogging every half hour for 24 hours. This year, though, I'm setting up a new blog just for the event, Super Girl Rach, where blogging 24 hours is my super power. I'm blogging for Book Aid, a UK charity that puts books in developing nations. As such, I would like to invite you to sponser me. Also, to contribute ideas on what to write in those 48 posts. I'm thinking, as I am doing this for a charity that puts books in schools and homes, I would do something along the lines of "Books I have loved". Also, sign up and do this with me, if you feel like having an adventure.
